I assume that you would like to improve your state of emotions..feel better, have more optimistic thoughts, improve the quality of your life. How to jump into this state of positive energy and maintain it? It’s quite simple, yet it requires some effort if you are already stuck in negative habits. We will start from simple steps that should come effortlessly to you and then gradually move to more difficult areas that may require some commitment from your side.
1. Smile
Yup, so simple, yet many people forget about it so often. Remove that gloomy expression and keep a smile on your face for at least 30 seconds. You may also look in the mirror and give a smile to yourself or smile to someone around you. I have just done it and I already feel better
.
2. Hug
Give a hug to your wife/child/friend and feel how pleasant it is for you and for the other person. When you wake up in the morning and you feel tired and heavy then approach someone around you, give a smile..give a hug..smile again. Smile to yourself in the mirror. I can guarantee you will already have a better start into the day. I have just completed the second step with you and gave a hug to my girlfriend, now I feel even better.
3. Stretch your body and take deep breaths
Put your arms high into the air and feel how your muscles release tension. Take several deep breaths, fill your lungs and brain with fresh air. So far so good, I’m feeling better and better.
4. Get some proper sleep
Always remember to give yourself time to sleep and regenerate. I think you should go for at least 6-7 hours. Make sure there are no distractions as noise is the last thing you need when sleeping. Generally noise affects you in a way you may not be aware of so avoid it as much as possible. Do not eat at least 2 hours before going to bed so that your body does not have to do extra work during the night. If you still feel a bit tired and thus demotivated then allow yourself a quick 30 min – 1 hour nap during the day if possible.
5. Take a look at your thoughts pattern
What are your predominant thoughts? How do they make you feel? Do they give you a boost of energy and bring a smile or do they bring you down and leave you uninspired? It is extremely important that you focus your attention on things which make you feel good no matter what it is.
Most of your actions begin in your mind, that’s why you have to take care of it and allow only positive thoughts. Even if the situation looks really bad you still have a choice of either complaining about it or changing it. Whilst complaining can only keep you in the same place or even make it worse..making a decision to change and following that with action will rapidly improve your reality. Always keep in mind that true power lies within you and only you can block it or unlock it.
6. Do some exercise
Yes, it’s getting a little more difficult now, but do not be discouraged and keep to the plan. Do some push-ups and sit-ups, aim for a minimum of 3 series x 5-10 push-ups and 3 series x 15-30 sit-ups. You may do fewer series but only if you are really limited by time or other circumstances..it is not a place for lazy people. Take about 1 minute of rest between each series and drink a glass of pure, still water. Uff..my heartbeat increased and I can feel that blood has been pumped into my muscles. I still remember when I used to train 5 times a week, 2 hours a day for 3 years and I loved it. Now, I only train at home as I prefer to use the weight of my own body and the gym is not necessary. Ok, let’s move to another step.
7. Don’t drink so much coffee
Another obstacle if you are a regular drinker of it. I used to drink coffee every day, between 1-3 cups so I know how it feels to go without it, especially in the morning. The easiest way to stop is to keep to the point number 4 and sleep properly and then you will not need coffee anymore. Also replace it with something else, like a refreshing cup of orange juice or any other juice of your choice. If it’s still too hard then use tea instead and at your own pace try to decrease the amount of it that you consume every day. There is nothing bad in having a cup of coffee every now and again but make sure that you control it and that you can easily go without it. I still have an occasional cup but it happens very rarely..as I am writing I haven’t drunk any coffee in the last 2 months. If I can do it, then you can do it too.
8. Drink less alcohol
If you already do not drink much then that’s great, but if you feel that alcohol has too much influence on your performance and general well-being then definitely it is the time to keep it under control. I remember when I came to UK with my friends in 2006. During the weekends it was one big party and fountain of alcohol was pouring through our throats. This situation continued for a long time and often I felt that instead of regenerating my body during the weekend I was even more tired. Often I neglected things which I had planned to complete simply because I was either too tired or I was already after couple of beers and didn’t feel like undertaking any project apart from opening another can of lager or having a glass of whiskey. Fortunately, I realised that by living this way I can only reach the bottom and I quickly bounced off and returned on the right track. I still like to have a drink from time to time but it no longer causes any problems.
9. Drink more water
The best way would be to buy yourself a water filter and then you will have an unlimited source of clean water. It’s also a better option to have a filter rather than buy bottled water since it’s much less expensive in the long term and it’s less suspicious than bottled water. Recently it came to my attention that water in plastic bottles contains fluoride which is claimed to be harmful. It would also be a good idea to limit the amount of soft drinks you consume or even better, stop drinking them at all. They are very unhealthy and almost totally artificial.
10. Change your eating habits
Start by limiting the amount of burgers, fries, crisps, sweets and pizzas that you consume, if you do of course. All of them contain high numbers of calories, fat and carbohydrates which your organism does not need. They only make you full for a short period of time and they can also make you feel heavy and tired. Get some chicken breast, vegetables and nice fruit (not too much though since they also contain a lot of sugar which you do not need). Your organism is like a vehicle which needs proper fuel to run smoothly. If you put some low quality, suspicious petrol into your car then sooner or later it will brake down..the same applies to human body. It’s fine to have an occasional pizza with your friends or a pack of crisps when you’re watching a movie but let it be a treat to you, not a regular meal. Changing your eating habits will have a significant impact on the way you feel and look so don’t wait and rewrite your menu now.
11. Stop smoking cigarettes
No one said it’s going to be easy all the way..and you’re probably thinking that this one is too hard to achieve (if you are a heavy smoker of course). But the truth is that this whole level of difficulty is just a laughable illusion. I was a “light” smoker for about 6 years, usually having between 5-10 cigarettes per day. It was enough to keep me addicted, make my stamina weaker, keep me away from physical training and help my wallet lose some weight. I never thought it would last as long as 6 years and I often tried to break the habit, each time unsuccessfully until now. Throughout those years I have read numerous books about personal development, positive thinking, spiritual growth and so on. Knowledge that I have gained helped me enormously and I can proudly say that since 7th December 2009 I am 100% clean when it comes to tobacco. There was another attempt to stop before that date which lasted for 2 months but then I made a mistake of “just checking how it tastes after such a brake”..and that mistake cost me another 2 months of addiction. But now I know it’s finished and I will definitely continue non-smoking life as it is much more colourful. Now the question is what actually made me quit..Well, it’s quite simple..Firstly I tried to find some negative sides of smoking..and I found plenty: destroying my health, making me more stressed, giving me a bad breath and disgusting smell on clothes, draining money, making me feel as its slave, giving me this unnatural irritating feeling when you cannot have a smoke, making my mouth unpleasantly dry and many more..Now the positive sides: absolutely NONE! Yeah..I could not find a single positive side of smoking..You can say that it tastes nice after a meal.. Haha..bullshit..you only think it tastes nice because you are addicted to it. Non-smoker would spit your cigarette out in 5 seconds because he would feel the truth about it instantly and the truth is that it’s a disgusting piece of shit..exactly. I am happy that I finally realised this truth and I am no longer blinded. I sincerely wish you the same and if you are serious about stopping smoking then you should definitely read this book by Allen Carr “Easy Way to Stop Smoking”. You can get it at Amazon from as little as £1,20. You may also be interested in checking Allen’s Carr website http://www.allencarrseasyway.co.uk where you will have the opportunity to sign up for a highly successful treatment in one of his clinics.
Some finishing comments
So this is the list of 11 things you can do to keep positive attitude and feel healthy and energetic. This list could be much longer but I wanted to limit it to the most important elements. From my own experience I can tell you that I personally practise all of those points and I enjoy my life much more.
